Last Night Was Mad Real- KKN Season 3 Premiere: Can Love & Hip Hop Work in a Relationship?!

If you missed KKN’s season 3 premiere last night you missed out! The show was bananas! Sex came up, relationships came up, where the hell Somaya Reece is came up, and whether Jim Jones & Yandy  are secretly getting it in….came up! We told you that it was going to be a show you didn’t want to miss, but I don’t think even we knew it would be AS poppin as it was! , Nikki Nicole, and DJ A-One were reunited on the set at TAGS BOUTIQUE (um.. have you been there.. you should go..now. #HOT lol ) ready to get this year of KKN up and running. Started off announcing our guest, Mrs. Mona Scott Young, producer of hit Vh1 show, Love & Hip Hop last week. Little did we know we’d end up with guests galore, Attorney Phaedra Parks (Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Southern Belle), rapper & all around boss Rasheeda, comedian Vanessa Fraction, and rapper/producer Don P, and reoccurring guest “Jill of all trades” Tamme Pha  all checked in to the set. The topic, ‘can love and hip hop work in relationships’ was beyond interesting. There were many moments of intense emotion from the early drawn crowd and panel. For many people it was all or nothing. Either love could exist in a relationship with a person in hip hop or it couldn’t. Kandi started the night off early with her opinion that most of the time..it does not work. Even though she was a bit pessimistic about it, that didn’t stop her from inviting her bff Rasheeda and Mona Scott Young to give the optimistic side of things- as both are apart of hip hop culture and have been married for  a long time. Check out more plus exclusive photos after the juuuuump!

The audience though a bit stiff at first warmed up rather quickly with the help of Kandi and the always ready for a laugh Nikki Nicole, who came in cracking everybody up! Once settled in though the crowd really got into the discussion. Producer Don Vito found himself on “hush patrol” throughout the night as the topics got too heavy to sit quietly by. Naturally the  discussions ranged from whether it is possible to have a relationship in hip hop, to the very popular reality show Mona produces, Love & Hip Hop. When asked if the relationship could work, our guests all chimed in with different opinions. Phaedra answered first, and got straight to it, “If two people want it to work, it will work. Relationships aren’t built upon what you do, it has nothing to do with Hip Hop.” She went on to say how our culture now  is more prone to divorce than marriage and how a lot of that has to do with women being able to be the bread winners now as opposed to the men. She got lots of amens from the crowd with that answer. Following Phaedra, DJ A-One let us in on his oh so famous opinion..”Any woman dealing with a man in the industry knows what she is getting into.” He and his Gentleman’s cocktail had the crowd dying laughing the entire night as always. Tamme Pha who is a reoccurring guest on the set, but this time was appearing concerning the topic as well, felt that trust was the common denominator. “If the trust is there it can work, if the trust is not there it won’t work.” Keeping it short and sweet, Tamme spoke from experience. Having a child and a previous long term relationship with producer Jazze Pha gave her much clout with the viewers and the audience.

We were all sort of waiting to hear what Mona would say. She was the most seasoned person on the floor and it sort of felt like every time she talked, everybody listened. Mona felt that it was all about what people are willing to deal with in relationships. In love & Hip Hop or any relationship, two people need to decide what they are willing to fight for or through. I felt her on that! Mona also felt that the images that the Hip Hop generation are exposed to play a part, “This is part of the reason I felt it necessary to show this side of relationships in Hip Hop and black love ( speaking on the show). If you’re not exposed to  it you don’t know how to nurture it properly.” She dropped non stop wisdom & le juice on the show all night..but we’ll get to that in a bit! The adorable Rasheeda chimed in piggy backing off of Mona. She felt it important that women not belittle themselves to keep a man. “Ladies, what you can’t do though is put yourself last and take just anything. You have to know when to walk away from a situation. Just as Chrissy (Love & Hip Hop) said- a man is only going to do what a man wants to do.” Rasheeda brought another angle to the discussion as she is a respected female rapper and married to someone in the business as well. Hip Hop has always been a male dominated arena, but Rasheeda let us know that as a female, she has to deal with some of the same issues because of the perception people have of Hip Hop artists. Kandi made it known that she admires her friend’s relationship. An important point to make to a crowd who overall carried a lack of faith in it being possible. Interesting enough, Dj A-One and the rest of the crew seemed to be in support of Kandi’s relationship too. A-One saying what she has now is a keeper! Go Kandi!

Nikki Nicole spoke from her own experiences too. She felt the same way Phaedra did,  ”In any thing, not just relationships..but anything, people have to be willing to make it work.” I loved how Nikki who usually keeps everybody laughing got real serious, really quickly when discussing this topic. “Some women stay in these relationships even when they aren’t being respected or treated right, just for security! Im not afraid, I’ll go back to my Mama’s house-start over or whatever I have to do, because Im worth that!” I was in the corner shooting her amens left and right. Rapper & producer Don P jumped in where Nikki left off stating that, “Women don’t go back financially & men don’t go back sexually.” It was a comment that made everybody stop and think. It was the truth. Its hard for a woman who is used to nice things to go backwards in that respect and the same is true for a man and his sex life. Don P was candid about being in a relationship for a while and how at the end of the day, they have decided to accept things..the crowd naturally didn’t know how to respond to that but he was able to clear it up a bit by saying, they’ve just made a decision to stick it out. That was the overlying theme for the while night. If you want your relationship to work.. period ..you have to be willing to work through some things and make it work.  It was also clear that you have to set your boundaries and know what is worth fighting for in the end. There were a few contradicting views.  Dj A-One felt you should never beg a man to marry you.. Mona thought it was the right for Chrissy to ask Jim Jones to marry her if she felt it  was necessary. One of the many highlights of this season of Love & Hip Hop was rapper Jim Jones’ long term girlfriend asking him to marry her. Of course we had to get into the juice of the show following that revelation.

Now I know some of y’all want to know what juice Mona gave about her show. She didn’t give away everything! I mean, she is the producer and she does want you to watch for yourself, but I was shocked at what she revealed. On the violence in the show- she said its not her favorite part of the show, but it is the cast’s natural reaction to things. She says they react as they react and she is responsible for editing their natural reactions. She also answered the question many L&HH viewers have been asking themselves for weeks now, ‘where in the world is Somaya Reece??’. Somaya started off as one of the main women featured in the show, only to disappear! Mona explained that as a producer, she is responsible for following the story and thats pretty much it. She says she has to go with what storyline is priority and its not as black and white as people are making it. She was really professional about it. At the moment it went over my head that she never really answered where the heck Somaya is! LOL.One of the greatest moments in the night was when the question was  posed to Mona whether or not Yandy and Jim had more going on than they let on. She cleared that up REALLY quickly stating that they were just as they are portrayed on the show. She did let on that the unraveling beef between Chrissy & Yandy is news to her. She didn’t realize before the show that they had any differences…. humph.

The night wrapped up with lots of laughs thanks to Dj A-One and his borderline inappropriate commentary that we can’t live without. Kandi made sure to let everybody get their shine on for a bit before closing the night out with details on how you can join she and Phaedra in Macon for a very VERY adult event! I mean really.. the show was crazy! Phaedra ended up reiterating how freaky she is, Rasheeda let out that she and hubby got it in on a plane (with a complete ‘how to’), and Dj A-One confessed his love for Yandy. It was entertaining to say the very least! A great way to kick off this year for KKN! We went out with a bang last year so of course we had to bring in the new year even better! Glad some of you tuned in..we missed ya! If you missed the show, be SURE head to our homepage and catch up! You will NOT regret it..especially those of you trying to land a rapper (don’t act!). You may want to learn from our guests if its even possible to get love and Hip Hop!

love what you have to say, but Pheadra??? For real??? she claims so classy and educated and does not miss an opportunity to let you know. I am open minded, but a southern classy woman does not know where to find a male stripper that does that!! That is classless!! And reminding everyone how sophisticated you are makes you NOT!!!

I really like KKN. It’s kinda like a black celebraty “Loveline” with Kandi and crew instead of Dr. Drew.
